The Pin of the Patawatomi Nation (Tribe)

The Pin of the Patawatomi Nation (Tribe)

I am completely fascinated by the Ribbon of the Patawatomi Tribe.

The pin in the picture was created by an Indigenous woman.

The four colours of ribbon represent the four colours of people; the four traditional medicines (sage, tobacco, cedar and sweetgrass), and the four directions (north, south, east and west).

The circular braid is made of sweetgrass.

When it is fresh it is possible to smell its lovely essence.

The ribbon and the other medicines grow wild. They are harvested and hung in homes.

The medicines are also used in ceremonies.

The Patawatomi Nation (Tribe) lives in Canada and the southern US.
