La Piana dei Mulini

La Piana dei Mulini

Every time I visit Altilia, a Roman archaeological site of extraordinary beauty, I love to stop and visit another enchanted place: La Piana dei Mulini, bathed by the waters of the Biferno river, where once there was a water mill. In the early 19th century it became a farm and wool dyeing centre, later converted into a hydroelectric power station which can still be visited. Today the Piana dei Mulini is a SIC site, of interest to the European Community and hosts an elegant “albergo diffuso”. I love walking along the banks of the river, with its cozy bends, and enjoying a good coffee or a glass of Tintilia in the company of friends. Often the simplest things are the most extraordinary.
