Termoli…..Terml

Termoli…..Terml

Termoli town between two rivers, the Sinarca and the Biferno. Pearl of the Central Adriatic Sea, privileged port for the Tremiti islands. The same parallel as Rome, the 42nd, north degrees, crossing with the 15th meridian, degrees east from Greenwich: by virtue of this meridian, the hour of Termoli is set as “clock of central-western Europe”.

Natural crossroads, always. Still today, road, rail and maritime junction. Northern door of the Gargano. “Baricentro” of Molise / Puglia / Abruzzo / Marche / Lazio. Showcase and logistic base of the “Basso Molise”. Preferred over the centuries by great travelers,  pilgrims, imperial messengers, crusaders and merchants. Perhaps even touched by Diomede, friend of Ulysses, in his journey of the “Italian boot”. Melting pot of ancient Italic populations, with those of Illyria and Hellespont: touched by the culture of the Magna Graecia, lapped by invaders that then remained, conquered. Plowed by the still visible and viable sheep tracks, ancient highways of the transient flocks, already in the Neolithic. Exit and motorway stop, for relaxation and refreshment of long-distance travelers, “post litteram” emulators of Hannibal the Carthaginian … Termoli with two beaches, one in the north-west, one in the south: unforgettable sunrises over the sea and sunsets behind the Maiella, queen of the Abruzzo mountains.

Termoli is favored by the relics of the two patron saints, S.Basso and S.Timoteo, which honor and make the Cathedral Church a unique treasure, a precious stone set in the ancient seaside village. Celebrations of the Patron Saints, very particular, with exceptional dispensations from the Congregation of Rites. In fact, for both of them twice a year. Celebrations of San Basso: August 3, sea procession with fishing boats and August 4, set at dawn, outdoors, at the port. Then liturgical feast on December 5th. Feast of St. Timothy: 11 May and liturgical feast on 26 January.
