San Pardo and Larino

San Pardo and Larino

San Pardo in Larino is one of the most beautiful and evocative festivals in Italy, whose origins date back to the year 842. It is in that year that the inhabitants of the town “Frentana”, who survived the Saracen invasion, found the relics of San Pardo. A divine sign. Their patron saint. They began to carry the relics in procession on wagons decorated with crepe paper flowers, hand-made by local women, and pulled by cows, sheep, veals. Over the years the number of wagons increased and today there are over 120 as evidence not only of the love of the Larinese peole for their patron, but also for the family and traditions, handed down over the centuries. From 25 to 27 May the town of Larino is transformed and gives inhabitans and tourists an out of the ordinary spectacle.
