D’Annunzio and the Trabocco Coast along with Ruggero

Trabocco Coast is a coastal stretch between Ortona and Vasto, in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo very close to Molise region. Together with Ruggero, a good friend and qualified guide, we will visit the coast and the trabocchi, installations intended for fishing activities. We will learn how, through “wooden arms” stretching over the sea and a system of ropes, a net is lowered in the sea resting on the backdrop until fish is caught and only then it will be put up and taken out of the water. This intended to be a very innovative (almost high-tech!!!) way to catch small and delicate fish by the coast.

We will be fascinated by this extraordinary fishing machine enjoying a delicious lunch in a inspiring atmosphere. Gabriele D’Annunzio, an Italian poet and writer, was deeply fascinated by the “Costa dei Trabocchi”, where he lived for a certain time with his great love, Barbara Leoni. In “The Triumph of Death”, D’Annunzio describes these “fishing machines” as “having a life of their own”. This is one of the most beautiful experiences to do in life, in Molise and Abruzzo.
