SunFlower Seeds

Sunflower Seeds (strictly Organic to be sure that the plant has not been treated with pesticides) are the fruit of a plant called “Helianthus Annuus” of the Astaraceae family. They are oilseeds and can be considered real natural supplements as they are rich in nutrients: essential fatty acids – such as folic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid; high vitamin content – such as vitamin A, vitamins of the group B, C, D and vitamin E; water, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, sugars – sucrose – amino acids and mineral salts, such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, calcium, iron, selenium, manganese and copper.

The B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E give this food antioxidant properties that fight free radicals and delay cellular aging.

The linoleic acid is an excellent natural remedy for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and for the protection of the heart.

Also, sunflower seeds are recommended for the good functioning of the intestine, for bone health and for the prevention of respiratory disease.  Celiac can eat sunflower seeds as they are glute-free.

There are three varieties of seeds: white variety, black and striped type seeds. The white variety is particularly rich in linoleic acid (omega.6); the black variety is rich in iron, manganese and zinc; the striped variety is useful for the proper functioning of the intestine.

All varieties are also used in the kitchen to decorate or enrich foods such as bread (excellent when mixed in the dough), bread sticks, scones, cereals, pasta, rice, cookies (if not toasted with salt), oat flakes, dried fruit, fruit salad, ice cream and salads. To make them more tasty is good to toast them for a few minutes in a pan or in the oven (temperature below 160 ° C) by adding a pinch of salt.

Finally,  oil extracted from sunflower seeds is widely used for the beauty of hair and skin as well as  for body massage to make the skin soft, toned and supple.
