“Located on the rolling hills of San Martino in Pensilis in Molise, the Colonna Estate covers 165hectares of cereals, olive groves and vegetables that overlook the Adriatic coast at an altitude of 120 meters above sea level. Here Marina Colonna is dedicated to quality productions, with a strong grounding to the land, to the most authentic values. Daughter of Prince Francesco Colonna, Marina decided to take the reins of the company in 1996; the origins of the relationship with this land date back to the early 1800s, forming part of the dowry of Duchess Cattaneo di Sannicandro, wife of Prospero Colonna. Today, in addition to more than 17,000 olive trees, the earth produces cereals, beets, sunflowers, chickpeas, lentils and hemp. Herons, hawks and migratory birds stop and feed in the five artificial lakes built in the early 60s by Don Francesco.
The olive tree marks the landscape of this area and the oil has been produced on the estate since the Colonna company exists; for this reason, in view of the centuries-old vocation of the land, in 1991 more olive trees were planted of many cultivars, typical of the area, using modern cultivation techniques with drip irrigation and monocone plants.
The olive grove, with different cultivars, is 70 hectares of traditional potted plants together with more recent plants of precious varieties that enter the disciplinary D.O.P Molise (Gentile di Larino, Rosciola, Leccino)”.
We will walk through the olive grove, learn how the olives are picked and then see how they are processed to obtain the Real Extra Virgin Olive Oil and learn sampling techniques on how to taste a variety of extra-virgin olive oils of every scent and flavor such as the citrus oils and the infused oils. You will get top tips and learn how to pair them with food.
NB. During the olive harvesting, a magical time (everything has to be carried out to perfection) you will learn how to use rakes, harvester and nets.
A Prosecco Aperitif and lunch will follow to enjoy the day along with the tasting of Tintilia wine. The menu is constantly changing so as the best seasonal ingredients can always be used.
