Unique Fabrics…at the Loom

Unique Fabrics…at the Loom

The Artisan Looms have a great charm and still today give us refined and unique, precious artifacts. In the “arbereshe” villages (towns of Albanian origin) of Molise, in harmony with tradition, the household linen (from tablecloths, sheets, blankets …) is created by “fairy hands”, elderly ladies or young creative people, who prepare warps to weave canvases with intriguing designs that recall “peppercorns”, “peacock eyes” … just to name a few.

Red rectangles of linen, green of hemp, blond of wheat and barley …… so it once was. Not anymore. It would be nice to go back to the cultivation of hemp and linen for the “production” of raw and natural fabrics; always use yarns derived from natural fibers such as silk, linen, hemp, cotton, wool ….. the broom.

Maybe I daydream. Perhaps it will only be a luxury for a few. Maybe.
In Molise, magic is still partly possible. And so I always go in search of fabrics with a retro charm, but also contemporary, hoping to be able to share this infinite beauty with those who understand it.
