Bath by Clotilde

Bath is wonderful, I have always liked it, so elegant and old fashion British styled!

You walk in the streets and feel as living between the pages of a Jane Austen’s novel…

And that it is … “I am terribly sorry Madam but we can’t lay an extra seat on a table for 4”.

That is what an attentive waiter said to us at the Tea Room we chose.   img-20161119-wa00171

We were 5 to be honest and the available table was for 4.

My uncertain expression might got him a little bit confused.

Perhaps we might have said “move that chair, pull those dishes together, turn the table” !

But not here, in the oldest house in Bath, where the traditional afternoon Tea must be enjoyed completely and comfortably.

A table for 4 then… and finally we are facing this lovely menu with such an exceptional choice of “Bath Buns”.

What a serendipitous discovery to taste with Tea.

It is a mix of brioche and  French bread, but traditionally it is a “bun”.

It is served with an incredible variety of toppings and it requires an appropriate “Bun Etiquette” too, which is emphasized on the first page of the menu.

Our afternoon Tea has been terrific, we respected all rules and left fully satisfied.

For your information, our fifth friend was not waiting us outside, while we were having Tea. A very kind Osaka couple offered us an available seat at their table, beside our table… and so we celebrated the Traditional Afternoon Tea in a perfect harmony between the East and the West.
