The Nerrowest Street in Italy – “A Rejiecelle di Termoli”

“A rejiecelle” in Termoli

“…..Since the space available in this small promontory – Termoli – is  small, the fishermen’s houses were built leaning against each other and then the streets were all very tight. Among these, the most famous, still existing today is “a’rejecelle”, so called in  dialect. It is long 7.8 mt and it is only 41 cm wide. We think it is definitely one of the narrowest streets in Italy and perhaps in Europe. All tourists visiting Termoli want to go through it , and especially engaged couples often try to do it arm in arm.

Other Italian towns claim to have the primacy of the width of their lane such as Ripatransone in the Marche region, but there the street measures 43 cm, and Lucera in the region of  Puglia where the street is 45 cm. In the town of Civitella sul Tronto in Abruzzo there is a lane of 66 cm where a wall has been erected at the entrance to create a 40 cm “street”, but after just a half meter the alley becomes wide 66 cm.

This means that at the moment “a ‘rejecelle” in Termoli has no rivals.

Come and visit us and you will realize it. “
